The Order Block: AI coaching for traders who want to learn properly

A GBPUSD learning, backtesting and journalling platform where AI asks the questions a good mentor would, reads the market against a written strategy every day, and learns from real trades. Live at theorderblock.app .

Case study· 5 min read

The brief

The founder trades one strategy on one pair: GBPUSD, the Asia session range, a sweep of its high or low, then a change of character back the other way. The goal was a place where new traders could learn that strategy properly, practise it on real days, and keep a journal that actually made them better, without it turning into another signal group.

The hard part of trading education is not the strategy. It is the honest review afterwards. Most journals are blank boxes that people fill with “felt fine”. The brief was to fix that with AI, and to make the platform itself get sharper as more trades came in.

What we built

A rules engine on real prices

Every trading day it marks the Asia range, watches London and New York, and writes up what happened: sweep or breakout, the change of character, entry, stop, target and result. The same rules drive the course, the practice drills and the backtests.

A journal that interviews you

Instead of a form, an AI coach asks about one trade at a time: why you took it, which rule you followed or broke, how you felt, what you would tell yourself next time. Your answers become the journal entry for you to check and save.

A coach that knows you

The coach answers from the written strategy and the trader’s own journal, so its advice is about their patterns, not generic tips. It also reviews chart screenshots against the rules.

Around that sit the parts a serious trader expects: a dashboard, calendar, daily journal and reports in the style of the best journalling tools, a real day replay for practice, prop firm challenge guidance, push alerts, a public daily GBPUSD page for every trading day, and a read only demo journal built from the founder’s own trades so visitors can see it working before they sign up.

Where AI does the work

AI is used where judgement and conversation help, and kept out of places where a plain rule is better. The market read is deterministic code, so the same day always reads the same way and can be tested. The model is used for the human side:

  • Journal interviews that follow up once when an answer is vague and turn the conversation into structured fields.
  • Chart reviews that grade a setup against the written rules and say which one was missed.
  • A learning loop: lessons from reviewed trades are written up, checked, and shared with every trader on the platform, so the coach improves as the data grows.
  • Mentorship screening: a short chat on the home page that asks the right questions and only passes on enquiries that fit.

This is the same pattern we use in AI implementation work for businesses: write down how good work is done, let AI ask the questions and do the tidy up, and keep a person in charge of the decisions.

Keeping it honest

Trading is a regulated and risky area, so the platform is careful by design. It is education, not advice, and says so on every page. Results from the rules include the losing days and the no trade days. Each browser gets its own private workspace with no account needed, screenshots are never shared, and the demo journal shows trades and lessons only. Model outputs that feed the app come back in a strict format and are checked before anything is saved.

When the founder corrected how one real day should have read, the fix went into the rules with a test built from that day’s actual prices, alongside the days the rules were first learned from, so a later change cannot quietly break them.

What it shows

A small, focused business can run a platform that feels personal at scale: the coach knows each trader’s habits, the journal asks better questions than most people ask themselves, and the system learns from every reviewed trade. The same approach fits coaching, quality checks, onboarding and any process where people need to reflect on what they did and get a little better each time.

Common questions

Is The Order Block a signal service?+

No. It is an education, backtesting and journalling tool. The rules engine shows how a written strategy reads each day so traders can learn it, and every page carries a risk warning. It does not tell anyone to place a trade.

How does the AI coach avoid making things up?+

It works from a fixed written strategy, the trader’s own journal and a short list of lessons learned from real trades. Answers that feed the app, such as journal summaries and chart reviews, come back in a strict structured format and are checked before they are saved. Anything the trader did not say is left blank rather than guessed.

Could the same approach work outside trading?+

Yes. The pattern is general: write down how good work is done, have AI ask people the right questions, store their answers in a structured way, and let the system learn from the outcomes. It suits coaching, quality reviews, onboarding and any process where people need to reflect on what they did.
